Patient experience

The bill becomes the way patients collect their report

Every bill carries a QR code. The patient scans it whenever they like, sees whether their report is ready, and downloads it the moment it is. No phone call, no second trip, no queue at your counter.

The most common question at a lab counter is one nobody needs to answer

Is it ready yet? Answering it costs a staff member's attention every single time, and the patient still has to travel back once the answer is yes. The bill they are already holding can answer the question for them.

What you get

What this gives your lab

  • Automatic on every bill

Generated at billing, printed on the bill. Nothing for the counter to remember or do.

  • Live status

Shows whether the sample is in progress, awaiting verification, or ready — so the answer is never a guess.

  • Download when ready

The moment the report is verified, the same code delivers the PDF.

  • Whole family on one bill

A bill covering several family members exposes each person's report separately.

  • No app, no login

Any phone camera opens it. Elderly patients manage it without help.

  • Fewer reprints

Patients who lose a report scan the bill again rather than asking for another copy.

In practice

Quietly removes a whole category of work

Labs that turn this on usually notice the phone getting quieter within a fortnight. The calls that remain are the ones worth taking — clinical questions rather than status checks.

  • Status enquiry calls drop sharply in the first month
  • Counter queues shorten because collection visits stop
  • Works for walk-ins who gave no phone number at registration
  • Costs nothing per patient, unlike SMS

The difference

What changes once this is running

  • Fewer status calls, so the counter can concentrate on patients in front of them
  • Patients without smartphones are unaffected — the old route still works
  • Reports reach patients even when you never captured a phone number
  • Reprint requests fall, because the patient can always fetch their own copy

FAQ

Bill QR code — common questions

What if the patient loses the bill?
They can still collect their report the usual ways — the WhatsApp or SMS link sent on verification, the patient portal, or simply asking at the counter. The bill QR is an additional route, not a replacement for the others.
Can someone else scan the bill and see the report?
Anyone holding the physical bill can, which is deliberate: it lets a family member collect on a patient's behalf without a proxy process. For labs that want stricter control, the code can be set to require the patient's date of birth or registered phone number before showing the report.
